Omran’s Alila Jabal Akhdar Named Top Regional Leisure Destination

Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort, developed by the Oman Tourism Development Company SAOC (Omran) was named the GCC Leisure & Tourism Project of the Year at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects. The award ceremony took place at the prestigious MEED Construction Leadership Summit 2015 in Dubai last month. The iconic mountain-top resort competed against some of the region’s top leisure destinations such as Avenues Mall Kuwait, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi and The Beach Dubai to take out the acclaimed award.

Commenting on the award, Omran Acting CEO Eng. Ali Al Rasbi said, “We are honoured that the Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort has been recognised as the top leisure and tourism destination in the region. Dedicating the win to recently departed Omran CEO Eng. Wael Lawati, Mr Al Kharusi added, “Awards such as this are, in part, a result of the dedication of Eng. Wael who helped to transform Omran into one of the most prominent and sustainable developers in the region. We wouldn’t be where we are today if it were not for his visionary and inspirational leadership.”

The Drake & Scull Leisure & Tourism Project of the Year award is the latest addition to the growing number of awards and accolades bagged by Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort since its opening. In March 2015, the resort was the first development in Oman to be awarded with the internationally recognized Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, representing a milestone achievement for the development of sustainable projects. The resort was also named among the top 60 destinations of the year in the Conde Nast Traveller Hot List 2015.
