Omran Awards Construction Tender of Brand New Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre Project
Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) announced that L&T Oman LLC, a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro Limited, bagged a tender for the turnkey construction of the four-star, 300-room Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre Project (OCEC).
Ideally positioned 10 minutes from Muscat International Airport, the 4-star hotel will include a two-level basement car park to accommodate 270 vehicles, a ground floor, mezzanine and six additional floors with Standard Guestrooms, Junior & Executive Suites & a Presidential Suite in addition to a Ballroom, an executive lounge, All- Day Dining Restaurant and a Speciality restaurant.
In line with Omran’s long standing sustainable policy, The hotel has been designed to achieve a Gold rating accreditation under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standard (LEED) manifesting itself in outstanding energy and water efficiency compared to international standards, use of Solar thermal hot water heating, LED fixtures in rooms and public areas and healthier indoor air quality for the occupants.
The Contractor will be responsible for Civil works, architectural finishes, MEP works, external works and landscape. The works will be supervised by local consultant Ibn Khaldoun Al Madaen in collaboration with Jordanian Architect Arabtech-Jardaneah.
Commenting on the Award, Omran’s CEO Engineer Wael Ahmed Al Lawati said: “The construction of the Crowne Plaza was awarded to L&T Oman based on their score in a comprehensive evaluation carried out by the project team; and subsequently approved by Omran’s main tendering committee and board. The evaluation considered the capability of the bidding firms, proposed execution methodology as well as their demonstrated commitment to Local Development”.
Due for completion in late 2016, a socio-economic impact study has indicated that the OCEC project will contribute RO 200-230 million annually to the GDP by 2030 and generate 15-30 thousand direct and indirect jobs in addition to creating opportunities for SME’s in destination management, retail, food & beverage, transportation, security, and other fields.
