Omran BoD Endorses Restructure, Unveils 3 New Subsidiary Companies
The Oman Tourism Development Company SAOC (Omran) held its first board of directors meeting of the year on Monday 1st February. The meeting was presided over by His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidi‚ Chairman of Omran, and was attended by their Excellencies, members of the Omran board of directors. The meeting discussed the company’s ongoing plans and projects for 2015 and the performance of Omran projects.
Board members were updated on the progress of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), and the developments in construction works for the different phases of the project including the exhibition center, and the construction contracts for the four star Crown Plaza Hotel and the five star Marriott Hotel with construction works of both hotels planned to start this year. The board also approved assigning the works of phase three of the project regarding the building of Convention Centre and facilities including auditorium and theater, conference rooms and supporting facilities. The board members emphasised the importance of adhering to the agreed deadlines for each construction phase and for the timely delivery of the completed first phase in 2017.
In addition to the updates on the OCEC development, the board members announced the company’s intention to commence construction works for a third five star hotel located at Shatti Al Qurum. The W Muscat Hotel will be set in an unparalleled location, complementing some of the most important buildings in Muscat and giving guests the opportunity to experience the rich arts and culture scene with the nearby Royal Opera House. The new development will offer iconic design and contemporary standards of luxury, coupled with the unique cultural experience that comes from visiting Muscat.
The Omran board members also discussed the master plan progress on Oman’s largest mixed-use project; the Hay Al Irfan Urban Development, which was recently awarded to Allies & Morrison.
During the course of the meeting, board members ratified the restructuring plan of the company which has resulted in the establishment of three subsidiaries, namely; the National Omani Hospitality Company (NOHC), which will manage the hospitality facilities of selected Omran properties, the Oman Heritage Development Company (OHDC), which will develop and manage heritage facilities in Oman, and the Oman Project Management & Development Company (OPMDC), which is responsible for developing projects with a specialization in the hospitality sector, handling single assets.
