Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran), the master developer of major tourism, heritage and urban developments, is pleased to announce its support of two major conferences taking place this month at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, on sustainable developments and smart city concepts.
On the first day of Oman Sustainable Design and Construction Forum 2017, Engineer Ammar Al Kharusi, Director of Development, Omran, joined the panel as a keynote speaker and presented a paper on Omran’s largest urban project, Madinat Al Irfan: a sustainable mega development.
Furthermore, Engineer Ahmed Elhassan, Senior Director, Omran, joined the panel discussion on improving collaboration between clients, consultants, contractors, and end users to deliver high quality, sustainable buildings within deadline and budget.
He also presented an update about the progress of works at OCEC project and highlighted several topics about the sustainable practices implemented across the different packages, as well as the efforts to achieve LEED gold certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Omran will also be a key participant at the Smart City Summit Oman 2017, the first conference and exhibition dedicated to discussing the economic value and its benefits when implementing smart city projects in the Sultanate. Al Kharusi will present a paper on the smart city concepts being applied at Madinat Al Irfan development, as well as the innovative sustainability concepts and approaches for the development. The paper will also cover the digital objectives of the development and the process of drawing the Smart City Concept strategy and framework during the planning phase.
Engineer Ammar Al Kharusi, Director of Development, Omran stated: “We are proud to be a key partner in these two major conferences, so that we can share our perspective on sustainable and smart city developments – in particular through our work at Madinat Al Irfan, one of the most iconic urban development projects to take place in Oman. We are committed to the sustainable development of the country and these conferences are essential platforms to share knowledge and experiences, so that we can all contribute towards a bright future for Oman. Sustainable and Smart city concepts are fundamental to ensure that Oman is at the forefront of tourism development.”
Part of Al Irfan phase one, Omran is currently working on a number of major projects, including a four-star Crowne Plaza hotel with 296 rooms, offering visitors a comprehensive experience including varied F&B outlets as well as a health and leisure club. Its proximity to the OCEC will make it an ideal choice for business travelers. The phase also includes the luxury JW Marriott hotel, a five-star, 304 key property with full amenities for guests. Both properties will be part of the OCEC precinct, the key initial asset in the first phase of Madinat Al Irfan. Both hotels and the convention centre are on track for completion by end of 2017.
In addition, the Omantel iconic headquarters at OCEC business park is also currently under construction. Acting as the anchor development of the business park, Omantel HQ will span 45,000 m², and include two office towers.
