Omran receives national and GCC awards for the ‘Water and Water Reuse Project of the Year’ at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2013
A champion for environmental preservation across all its operations, Omran recently received the national and GCC awards for ‘Water and Water Reuse Project of the Year’ at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2013. The accolade was presented to the company for the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located at the Crowne Plaza Duqm following a stringent evaluation process conducted by a team of independent judges who recognized the project for its simple yet innovative design that has shown considerable results.
“Receiving the ‘Water and Water Reuse Project of the Year’ award has further cemented our position as Oman’s tourism-related development, hospitality management and investment company that leads by example,” said Eng. Nasser Al Maqbali, COO of Omran. “In the past, Duqm was known for being a small fishing settlement. Today, the Wilayat has transformed into one of the fastest growing industrial hubs in the region and therefore, making sure its scarce natural resources are used wisely and efficiently is crucial for the continued prosperity of the town’s community.”
Using efficient water fixtures, the STP has decreased onsite water demand by 35% and produces a total capacity of 300,000 liters of treated water per day that is used for all irrigation purposes.
“To ensure the Crowne Plaza Duqm is in harmony with the Wilayat’s fragile eco-system, Omran implemented an effective Sewage Treatment Plant that mitigates water shortage, improves productivity and minimizes any adverse impact the hotel may have on the local community,” Added Al Maqbali.
The MEED Quality Awards for Projects are the only GCC-wide awards program that recognizes completed projects. Entries are evaluated for their commitment to quality from the concept and design stage through engineering and construction to completion.
