Omran’s “Together We Protect Our Marine Life” Wins Asia’s Best CSR Practices Award
Joint initiative between MECA and Omran Crowned International Success

Muscat, 17 March 2015: In line with its commitment towards the protection and conservation of Oman’s environment and sustaining its marine life, Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) conceptualised a conservation campaign in association with Oman’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) to preserve and maintain the natural beauty of coral reefs in Oman. At ‘Asia’s Best CSR Practices Awards’staged in Singapore, Omran was recognised for their innovative campaign and awarded the ‘Best Eco-Friendly Project’ for their ‘Together We Protect Our Marine life’ campaign, underlining the prominent and pivotal role by Omran in driving the efforts to maintain the environment and promote sustainability by such meaningful initiatives.
The ‘Together We Protect Our Marine Life’ coral reef campaign in Musandam was aimed at preserving marine life and raising the awareness of our priceless beaches and marine lifeamong various segments of the local community. The campaign achieved a great response and included practical Coral reef and beach clean-up sessions conducted by environmental consultancy and conservation organisation (5Oes) for divers from MECA and engaged many participants including; Omran staff, volunteers from Atana Musadnam Resort, Golden Tulip Dibba Hotel, Community members, adults, children at schools and NGOs. The campaign also included beach clean-up campaigns with the local community.
Commenting on this achievement, H.E Mohammed Bin Salim Al Tobi, Minister of Environment and Climate affairs said, “We are proud of the positive response from the local community of Musandam regarding Omran’s campaign ‘Together We Protect Our Marine life’, which has achieved its goal in spreading awareness about the social and economic importance of maintaining and preserving our fragile coral reefs and marine life. Also, we are very proud of the international recognition this campaign has garnered, and we hope this appreciation would motivate everyone to organize further eco-themed campaigns and initiatives, I would like to thank everyone who contributed in this project for their intensive efforts and excellent team work that led to the achievement of desired goals.”

One of the previous achievements by Omran was being awarded as the first development in Oman to obtain the prestigious international LEED certification for Alila Jabal Akhdar and Atana Musandam, which represents a milestone achievement for the development of sustainable infrastructure in the Sultanate. The “Together We Protect Our Marine Life” campaign underscores the vital role of Omran in developing innovative and sustainable tourism destinations with advanced environmental specifications. The comprehensive strategy followed by Omran regarding environmental conduct is comprised of meaningful initiatives that aim to promote sustainability, and spread awareness about the importance of preserving the local environment, for sustainable social and economic growth. Omran is working to achieve international LEED certificationfor all future development projects, and annually publishes a sustainability report to demonstrate the efforts it has made throughout the year, which recently marked the company as the most transparent developer in the real estate and tourism sector for the second year in a row.
