Madinat Al-Irfan is the Sultanate’s largest urban development project that will create a new downtown area for the Muscat capital district

Madinat Al Irfan directly aligns with the government’s vision to invest in sustainable developments strengthen and diversify the economy of Oman.

Madinat Al Irfan is the product of an exciting ambition to establish a new urban centre within Muscat. Situated in close proximity to the new international airport and enjoying excellent transport connections to the capital area and beyond, Madinat Al Irfan willbecome the gateway to Oman; creating a new downtown for residents, for business and for visitors. The city will establish an integrated, sustainable and inclusive community, catering for different ages, income groups, and ethnicities.

With a Wadi Park as it’s spine, Irfan will be a city with public space as its heart. Madinat Al Irfan will become an exemplar both locally and regionally, providing a model for urban development. Importantly, Madinat Al Irfan will alsobecome a catalyst for change in Oman; setting new benchmarks in terms of sustainability and urban design, providing public transport while creating a magnet for business, a centre for tourism and a great place to live and work.

Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre

This landmark project is the centrepiece of Oman’s business development programme aimed at establishing the Sultanate as a major regional venue for regional and international events. OCEC precinct will include four hotels, a business park, retail shopping areas and residential districts, surrounded by a nature reserve which will be a haven for Oman’s exotic birdlife, parklands and wadi (valley) park are also part of this picturesque precinct.

 

 

In March 2013 Omran released a study on the OCEC project conducted by Booz & Co., which projected that the project will generate 295 million Omani Riyals in local spending and estimated that OCEC will create up to 15-18000 Direct and indirect jobs and contribute 200-240 million Omani Riyals to the national economy by 2030. The study also included that by 2030 the OCEC will contribute 140-170 million Omani Riyals to GDP, 30% of this amount from tourism revenues. The Booz & Co. socio-economic impact assessment study on OCEC concluded that far-reaching impact is expected to the Oman economy and in terms of job creation for Omanis within the OCEC and outside the development.

The construction of OCEC project has been designed to ensure compliance to sustainability guidelines meet LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. And as part of our on-going commitment to local development, Omran established a mentoring programme within the OCEC construction supervision team to allow the largest number of Omani engineers from various disciplines to gain on-the-job exposure to different stages of construction.

The new five-star hotel, situated at the heart of the OCEC precinct will be operated under the JW Marriott brand. The hotel, currently under construction, includes state-of-the-art food and beverage outlets, meeting facilities and a health and leisure club. Once completed, it will add an additional 304 keys to hotel offerings in the Sultanate. As with all projects under construction by Omran and within OCEC, the hotel is being built according to the highest standards of environmental sustainability and is designed to meet the criteria for the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The new four-star hotel will be operated by Crowne Plaza Hotels and Resorts, part of the InterContinental Hotel Group. The hotel, currently under construction, includes state-of-the-art food and beverage outlets, meeting facilities and a health and leisure club, will add an additional 296 keys to hotel offerings in the Sultanate. As with all projects under construction by Omran and within OCEC, the hotel is being built according to the highest standards of environmental sustainability and is designed to meet the criteria for the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
