OMRAN Group Welcomes George Washington University Students for an Inspiring Workshop on Sustainable Tourism in Oman

As part of its role in enhancing the tourism sector in the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) hosted a delegation from George Washington University for a dedicated workshop on sustainable tourism. The event took place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the participation of 15 students from the university’s Business Arabic Program and their faculty members.

The workshop aims to introduce students to Oman’s experience in achieving sustainable development within the tourism sector while highlighting OMRAN Group’s pivotal role in enhancing Oman’s presence on the global tourism map and in turns, supporting its economic growth. The program included a presentation by Dr Salim Al Flaiti, Head of  HR Business Partners at OMRAN Group, showcasing the Group’s sustainable tourism projects. This was followed by an interactive discussion session, providing students with the opportunity to engage and ask questions.

Commenting on the event, Dr Al Flaiti said:
“This workshop is part of our ongoing efforts to raise international awareness about Oman’s tourism potential. Through this initiative, we aim to acquaint the next generation of leaders with our vision for sustainable development and showcase our projects as a model for balancing economic growth with the preservation of cultural and environmental heritage.”

Renaad Al-Sarhani, Human Capital Generalist at OMRAN Group, expressed her delight in organizing this event, stating:
“Collaborating with international academic institutions like George Washington University reflects the Group’s commitment to fostering cultural and academic exchange. It also provides us with an opportunity to present an authentic perspective on the positive transformation taking place in Oman’s tourism sector.”

In addition to participating in the workshop, the students had the opportunity to explore Oman’s renowned cultural and tourist landmarks, including some UNESCO-listed heritage and natural sites.

This workshop is part of the ongoing collaboration between OMRAN Group and George Washington University, following a previous visit by a university delegation to Oman in March 2024 as part of its academic program aimed at fostering cultural and economic understanding between nations. These initiatives align with national efforts to diversify the economy and develop non-oil sectors, with a strong focus on tourism as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

OMRAN Group continues to play a pivotal role as a strategic partner in achieving Oman’s sustainable development goals by developing tourism projects that blend innovation with respect for the environment and local culture. Notable projects include the tourism destinations in Al Jabal Al Akhdar and Sohar, which exemplify the group’s commitment to creating job opportunities, stimulating investments, and preserving Oman’s unique identity.
