OMRAN Group Adopts 'Meezan' Platform to Enhance Environmental Sustainability Practices in the Tourism Sector

Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN Group) announced its registration and onboarding onto the ‘Meezan’ platform, operated by the Oman Net Zero Centre under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. The platform is dedicated to greenhouse gas inventory and emissions accounting. The announcement was made on the sidelines of Oman Sustainability Week, marking a strategic step toward reinforcing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices across the Group’s projects and operations, while driving the transition toward a more sustainable and responsible tourism model.

The ‘Meezan’ digital platform enables the deployment of advanced solutions and data-driven methodologies to accurately measure carbon emissions generated from the Group’s operations, while supporting efforts to reduce and mitigate them in accordance with international best practices. This initiative aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the national target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. It will also strengthen the Group’s strategic capabilities in monitoring environmental performance indicators in an integrated manner and enhance decision-making efficiency across its broad portfolio of tourism assets and projects.

Commenting on the initiative, Eng. Mohamed Abdullah Al Salmi, Acting Chief Development Officer at OMRAN Group, said: “This step reflects OMRAN Group’s commitment to embedding sustainability as a core pillar across our projects and operational practices. Our collaboration with the Oman Net Zero Centre extends beyond conventional technical frameworks into broader strategic dimensions. It enables us to accurately measure emissions and develop practical and effective reduction plans that elevate environmental standards within the tourism sector and contribute meaningfully to achieving Oman’s national sustainability objectives.”

For his part, Eng. Mohsin Sulaiman Al Jabri, Director General of the Oman Net Zero Centre, stated: “Through this collaboration, we aim to provide OMRAN Group with the necessary technical knowledge and advisory support regarding greenhouse gas emissions management and mitigation mechanisms, enabling the Group to further develop its environmental practices in support of the Sultanate’s collective efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.”

This initiative represents a practical reflection of the integration between the public and private sectors in advancing Oman’s national net-zero ambitions by 2050, in alignment with the updated national plan.

The ‘Meezan’ platform provides integrated tools for monitoring and measuring emissions from various sources in accordance with methodologies approved by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), ensuring high levels of accuracy and transparency in calculating each entity’s carbon footprint. The platform also grants participating entities access to the National Carbon Registry, serving as a direct activation of Oman’s approved regulatory framework for carbon markets and preparing organisations for active participation within this ecosystem.

Through its diverse portfolio of tourism destinations, hospitality assets, and strategic developments, OMRAN Group continues to advance sustainable tourism development in the Sultanate of Oman by balancing economic growth with environmental and social responsibility.
